Job Description

Duke University Medical Center Department of Immunology is currently seeking to fill Research Technician and Research Analyst positions. These research and development positions focus on a novel technology that comprehensively identifies autoantibody targets on a genome-wide scale across the diverse spectrum of human disease. This technology involves a blend of immunology, biochemistry, molecular biology, and bioinformatics. Applicants with bioinformatics experience are encouraged to apply. Research is supported through sponsored research involving Antigenomycs, Inc. (a RTP biotech company), a large pharma collaborator, and government and private agencies interested in the identification of diagnostic, prognostic and therapeutic targets and assays for determining disease trajectory. This is a unique hands-on opportunity to join a research and development team driving basic science innovation with the capacity to shape patient care for a wide variety of human diseases.

Job Requirements

Research Technician responsibilities include:
• Perform molecular, cellular, biochemical, and immunological analyses
• Molecular biology techniques including PCR, DNA sequencing, and molecular cloning
• Culture eukaryotic and prokaryotic cells, and viruses
• Prepare culture media, reagents, and solutions
• Purify and analyze cells, tissues, and RNA/DNA
• In vitro and in vivo assays, animal models of disease, and mouse colony maintenance
• Execute and document laboratory experiments with precision and in detail
• Maintain routine laboratory operations, research equipment, and reagents
• Ability to handle multiple complex tasks and prioritize research projects
• Assist team members as needed

Additional responsibilities for the Research Analyst position include:
• Participation in the design and execution of proof-of-concept technology development
• Assay employment, data generation and bioinformatics management
• Develop, optimize, and troubleshoot experimental protocols and equipment
• Assist in the development of new research procedures and techniques
• Compile results, maintain lab notebooks, and assist with reports and research manuscripts
• Advanced technical assistance and supervision for ongoing research projects
• Assist in the training of new personnel
• Active participation in laboratory team meetings
• Generate data, SOPs, graphs, slides, and manuscripts for publication
• Communication with colleagues and the scientific community

Success in the Research Technician position includes:
• BS in immunology or equivalent work experience in immunology, molecular biology, biochemistry, or bioinformatics
• A positive work and research team ethic, with dedication to a research career
• Strong oral and written English communication skills
• Ability to handle complex tasks and work independently as well as collaboratively

Success in the Research Analyst position includes:
• Advanced degree in a biological science, or Bachelor’s degree with equivalent experience
• Ability to prioritize in an academic research and therapeutic development environment
