Job Description

Locus Biosciences is seeking highly motivated applicants to join our research and development team as a full-time Scientist/ Senior Scientist within Locus’s human gene editing group. This position is well-suited for highly motivated individual that have the desire to implement recent advances in gene editing towards developing gene and cell therapies. This individual will be part of a small team working to establish the foundations of our CRISPR/Cas3 gene editing platform and develop preclinical in vitro and in vivo proof-of-concept in cell therapies for immunology and oncology. The ideal candidate will be highly organized, execution-oriented and have a strong scientific background in T-cell biology, CAR-T therapies, and/ or gene editing technologies. Candidates must have the ability to manage multiple concurrent projects, but be flexible, adjusting plans as the data dictate. The individual must be able to communicate effectively and be able to work across interdisciplinary teams.

Responsibilities include:

· Establish our novel gene editing platform based on Type I CRISPR/Cas3 systems as part of a small, foundational team

· Implement innovative and high-throughput in vitro approaches to develop and optimize the platform across various applications

· Conduct experiments across both in vitro and in vivo studies to establish proof-of-concept data sets that drive platform development

· Independently lead and drive the development of in vitro and in vivo preclinical proof-of-concept for autologous and allogeneic cell therapy approaches, including CAR-T against immunology and oncology targets

· Expertise in manipulating T-cells, including purification, transfection, transduction, activation, and expansion

· Develop and drive innovative approaches to expand Locus into immunology and oncology areas for cell therapy

· Presentation of results to internal scientists, external collaborators, and Locus management

· Keeping accurate record of experiments and results

Candidate must possess:

· PhD with strong publication record in immunology, molecular biology, cell biology, or a closely related field

· Minimum 2 years of relevant experience (postdoctoral or industry)

· Experience with gene editing principles, including analysis of on- and off-target effects, gene knockouts and gene editing by homologous recombination

· Hands-on proficiency in primary immune cell isolation and culture

· Experience in planning and executing in vitro functional assays to characterize primary immune cells and determine in vivo functionality

· Experience in flow cytometry and data analysis

· Ability to structure, implement and maintain study plans in the face of ambiguity

· Willingness to develop solutions to difficult objectives independently and consistently

· Strong proficiency in experimental design and statistical analysis

· Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Desired experience:

· Advanced working understanding of genome editing techniques in primary immune cells, such as T cells, NK cells and others

· Prior experience with cell therapies or other biologics

· Understanding of regulatory guidelines for cell therapies
