The Moody Discovery Laboratory focuses on understanding the B cell responses during the earliest stages of HIV, influenza, and syphilis infection, providing pre-clinical and translational support for downstream human clinical studies that fall within DHVI’s mission of performing research against infectious diseases that impact global health. The lab is a resource for both nonhuman and human cellular phenotyping, flow characterization, staining and analysis at DHVI. Further, the Moody Discovery Laboratory performs a variety of assays to support the DHVI mission; including cellular and serological assays, molecular biological techniques, protein production, and viral isolate propagation.
• Independently lead and execute major and complex scientific projects within the Moody Discovery laboratory, serve as the point person for assigned projects and coordinate collaborative science among investigators within DHVI and externally to effectively meet the scientific milestones and project deadlines.
o Must understand goals, aims, and timelines for multiple projects;
o Must communicate thoroughly, effectively, and timely with various levels across DHVI and external collaborators;
o Must provide written data to multiple levels, as well as prepare and present logical data updates;
o Must estimate experimental costs in advance of work to ensure funding is available and that work planned is within scope of sponsored programs.
• Design and execute experiments and interpret data in support of the influenza programs, to include:
o Viral production activities, including isolation and propagation;
o Bioinformatic analysis of viral envelope and antibody sequences;
o Large-scale recombinant protein production and purification by transient transfection including antibodies, viral envelope, and host proteins;
o Large-scale cell culture;
o Adapt expression methods to mitigate challenges encountered with routine expression systems;
o Characterize the binding and neutralization phenotypes of monoclonal antibodies and investigate the ontogeny of vaccine-induced neutralizing antibodies;
o Investigate structure-function relationships of antibody recognition of influenza;
o Based on experimental findings, proactively design follow up experiments.
• Work collaboratively with Moody Lab Leadership to advance activities on other projects, which may include:
o Design and manage preclinical animal experiments;
o Work with Moody Lab leadership to write and maintain IACUC protocols, training, etc.;
o Train laboratory staff and DHVI trainees;
o Develop and optimize new assays for the laboratory;
o Ensure materials and reagents are available for ongoing projects;
o Perform preventative maintenance on laboratory equipment as required.
• Under the direction of Dr. Moody, prepare publication-quality data for manuscripts and reports using various graphical software applications (Ai, Prism, etc.), as well as draft manuscript language.
• Perform other related duties as necessary and requested
Min Degree Requirements: Ph.D. or equivalent doctorate (e.g. Sc.D., M.D., D.V.M.).
Other Credential/Experiential Requirements:
• 5 + years of postdoctoral experience conducting scientific research.
• Multiple publications and notable significant contributions to scientific research.
• Must be detail-oriented, well organized and approach procedures with critical thinking of the technical aspects.

• Must be team oriented and able to work effectively in a highly collaborative work environment.
