Job: Packaging Operations Technician, Alcami, Wilmington, NC

Position Summary

The Packaging Operations Technician is accountable for driving results in a fast-paced environment by leading the inspection, labeling and packaging of pharmaceutical products for commercial and clinical packaging. Packaging Operations Technician  will operate packaging-related processing equipment, provide job specific training to other technicians, and have technical expertise in a least four manufacturing technologies.  The Packaging Operations Technician will be responsible for overseeing the packaging room set up, documentation (batch records), equipment, and workflow of the clinical and commercial packaging rooms. A Packaging Operations Technician will take on a leadership role in the packaging rooms, as it relates to technical tasks. The person in this position will be able to operate packaging-related processing equipment and provide operators with training of equipment, work set up, job responsibility in the room and work flow for the project and room.  These functions will be executed by following standard operating procedures, batch records and training materials in accordance with FDA current Good Manufacturing Practices.  The position requires superior leadership behaviors of the Alcami core competencies and non-negotiables, as well as expertise in functional competencies included in this position profile.

Essential Functions

• Operates inspection, labeling and packaging equipment.


• Operates material handling equipment.


• Performs in-process checks and component counting.


• Interacts with auditors during scheduled inspections.


• Interacts with clients as needed.


• Operates machinery and reads process control instruments to ensure proper operation.


• Identifies operational problems when they occur.


• Cleans rooms, equipment and tools for use in a cGMP environment.


• Conducts routine in-process testing and visual inspections and identify out-of-specification conditions.


• Provides day-to-day direction for operational tasks to team members as needed


• Provides assistance to other technicians.


• Provides training to new and less experienced employees.


• Demonstrates Mastery of Serialization Line Level equipment and Vision Inspection Systems.


• Assists Technical Services personnel with Serialization-related tasks such as New Product setup, recipe verification activities (RVF), and troubleshooting


• Assists Validation personnel with equipment qualification activities, such as protocol generation and execution.


• Assists Packaging Management with investigations: Deviations, Product Quality Complaints, and associated CAPA items.


• Ensures timely completion and compliance with cGMP and all other relevant company training requirements.

Education and Experience

• High School Diploma required. Associate’s degree, such as Pharmacy Technician preferred. 


• 6 years in pharmaceutical packaging environment or equivalent regulated industry required.
