Job Description


Summary
The Research Associate II-III will work within the Animal Studies team and carry out In Vivo studies to support research efforts in accordance with Precision’s goals. Responsibilities include rodent handling, colony management, dosing and management of studies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Basic handling, observation, identification and handling of rodents
Perform laboratory experiments including sample preparation, and data collection using established protocols
Colony management
Perform routine preparation/monitoring of laboratory materials, maintain equipment and order supplies
Laboratory cleaning and sanitization
Perform euthanasia as necessary
Administer intravenous, intraperitoneal, intramuscular, retro-orbital and subcutaneous treatments
Place rat catheters, administer mammary fat pad and sub-mental injections
Study plan management and independent execution
Tissue harvest, and tail biopsies for laboratory analysis and/or monitor general post-operative condition as directed
Blood collection and blood chemistry analysis
Image both immune-competent and immunocompromised animals using the IVIS Spectrum and analysis of data utilizing Living Image acquisition software
Data compilation and implantation to electronic notebook (ELN)
Cardiac perfusion and organ harvest
Other duties related to team and job functions as requested by manager

Location
This is an office-based position located out of Precision BioSciences’ main campus in Durham, NC

Travel Requirements
This position requires up to 50% local travel between Precision BioSciences main campus and animal facility. The Research Associate will be expected to travel to all applicable locations when needed.

Job Requirements


Education/ Experience:
Successful candidate should have a BS in life sciences and 2+ years of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience
Comfortable with animal handling and restraint
Experienced in intravenous, intraperitoneal and retro-orbital injection
Ability to work with hazardous chemicals and knowledge of safety requirements to provide instructions and recognize and correct hazardous conditions
Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with employees, vendors and external agencies
Ability to identify and resolve problems as well as communicate clearly and concisely
Ability to work successfully both independently and in a collaborative environment
Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize effectively
Willingness to assist the team with occasional night/weekend work if needed

Preferred:
Experience with immunodeficient animals
Experience with Living Image and GraphPad Prism
Experience with orthotopic routes of administration
