Job Description

Redbud Labs is a small company that is inventing and producing new microfluidic, cellular, and biochemical assays. We are expanding our small team. This is an exciting opportunity for an individual who thrives in a multidisciplinary environment and hopes to work for a young company developing cutting edge technology. Our team combines multidisciplinary engineering design and a deep culture of scientific thinking. Our mission is to build groundbreaking life science products.

This position will design, prototype, and test electromechanical systems, including motor assemblies, temperature control systems, manufacturing jigs, etc.. The Project Engineer will define requirements, design and implement solutions (including management of build, test and iteration), and lead design review / qualification activities. Organizational skills and excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential. A strong sense of user empathy is critical. This is a high-visibility role that presents unusual opportunity to gain diverse experience and to grow with the company. A successful candidate will have the opportunity to participate in the conception of new products and to be an inventor on patents.

This position will help define and execute development plans for novel instrumentation for microfabrication and biochemical assays. This includes defining user requirements and product specifications, preparing design concepts for critical review, and drafting practical devices to meet product requirements. The Project Engineer will advise senior
management on the system development roadmap, including opportunity identification, setting project goals, and
tracking progress.

• Communicate the purpose, status, and results of your work at all levels, up to and including the CEO.
• Execute work to meet program deadlines, including setting and tracking of systems-related goals.
• Closely adhere to appropriate safety and environmental regulations. Create a safety-first mentality among all participants in Redbud’s systems activities.
• Keep the lab running smoothly: identify and resolve issues related to management of vendors and contractors

Job Requirements

Expertise matters. Demonstrated success in Mechanical Engineering a prerequisite. Ability to design and troubleshoot at a conceptual level across the major engineering disciplines (mechanical, electrical, software) is preferred, and deep expertise in mechanical engineering is required. An ability to identify and retain high-quality contractors, technicians, and technical advisors is essential. The ideal candidate will have experience in real time systems, Temperature control Systems or life science instrumentation.

Independence is encouraged, teamwork is essential. The candidate must be motivated and self-directed, yet eager to learn about users' pain points and think creatively about how to relieve them.
