Job Description

Redbud Labs is a small company that is inventing and producing new microfluidic, cellular, and biochemical assays. We are expanding our small team. This is an exciting opportunity for an individual who thrives in a multidisciplinary environment and hopes to work for a young company developing cutting edge technology. Our mission is to build groundbreaking life science products.

The Manufacturing Specialist will assist in the design, prototype, and test of electromechanical systems / jigs as applicable to the manufacturing processes. The Manufacturing Specialist will define requirements; work with engineers to design and implement solutions (including management of build, test and iteration), and lead design review / qualification activities. Organizational skills and excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential. A strong sense of user empathy is critical. This is a high-visibility role that presents unusual opportunity to gain diverse experience and to grow with the company. A successful candidate will have the opportunity to participate in the conception of new products and to be an inventor on patents.

The Manufacturing Specialist will be directly responsible for assessing and implementing Continuous Improvement ideas in the production process. An understanding of risk analysis, Lean Manufacturing Principles, Six Sigma, and data analysis and presentation is required to succeed in this position. The Manufacturing Specialist is a back-up to the Manufacturing Technician and must be able to supplement in their role as required.

Additionally, the candidate will:
• Manage systems knowledge throughout the organization.
• Communicate the purpose, status, and results of their work at all levels, up to and including the CEO.
• Execute work to meet program deadlines, including setting and tracking of systems-related goals.
• Closely adhere to appropriate safety and environmental regulations. Create a safety-first mentality among all participants in Redbud’s systems activities.
• Keep the manufacturing space running smoothly: identify and resolve issues related to management of vendors and contractors.

Job Requirements

We invent new technology, on a deadline. Success is the product of countless failures and a lot of hard work. We look for creative, skilled people with a passion for problem solving and a determination to get the job done.

Expertise matters. Demonstrated success with continuous improvement in a manufacturing environment is a prerequisite. Ability to measure, monitor, and determine an action plan (DMAIC) is required. An ability to identify and retain high-quality contractors, technicians, and technical advisors is essential. The ideal candidate will have experience in continuous improvement in an FDA or other regulated industry.

Independence is encouraged, teamwork is essential. The candidate must be motivated and self-directed, yet eager to learn about users' pain points and think creatively about how to relieve them. The position is part of a small team working quickly to bring assays to market. Regular interactions with this team will require clear communication of goals and opportunities, an ability to extract clear specifications from users, and a desire to work along-side group members to achieve our common goals.

Training Requirements:
Typical training for this position will be in Biomedical, Electrical, Industrial, Mechanical Engineering / Technology, or a related field. Expected experience for this position is an Associate’s Degree (AS) or equivalent industrial experience, and a portfolio of prior work.
