Job Description

The Research Associate I will work within the Animal Studies team and carry out In Vivo studies to support research efforts in accordance with the goals of Precision BioSciences. Under specific direction, the Research Associate I will assist and perform a variety of routine technical procedures related to the execution of animal studies, including: animal identification, colony management, dosing, imaging, monitoring animal behavior, collecting specimens, and euthanasia.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Basic handling, observation, identification and handling of rodents
Perform laboratory experiments including sample preparation, and data collection using established protocols
Perform routine preparation/monitoring of laboratory materials, maintain equipment and order supplies
Perform euthanasia as necessary
Administer intravenous, intraperitoneal, intramuscular, retro-orbital and subcutaneous treatments, collect blood samples, tissue harvest, and tail biopsies for laboratory analysis and/or monitor general post-operative condition as directed by veterinary staff and other tasks as deemed necessary
Blood collection and blood chemistry analysis
Image both immune-competent and immunocompromised animals using the IVIS Spectrum and analysis of data utilizing Living Image acquisition software
Data compilation and implantation to electronic notebook (ELN)
Cardiac perfusion, organ harvest and formalin tissue fixation
Some evening and weekend work will be required

Travel Requirements:
This position requires up to 50% local travel between animal facility and main campus
The Research Associate I will be expected to travel to all applicable locations when needed

This is an office-based position located out of Precision BioSciences’ main campus in Durham, NC

Job Requirements

Education/ Experience:
Successful candidate should have a BS in life sciences and 0-2 years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of training and experience
Comfortable with animal handling and restraint
Ability to work with hazardous chemicals and knowledge of safety requirements to provide instructions and recognize and correct hazardous conditions
Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with employees, vendors and external agencies
Ability to identify and resolve problems as well as communicate clearly and concisely
Ability to work successfully both independently and in a collaborative environment
Strong communication skills and comfort in an interdisciplinary lab
Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize effectively

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with immunodeficient animals
Experience with IVIS and Living Image software
AALAS certification
