Job Description


The Scientist I will contribute to the In Vivo Models Team with a diverse range of research projects. Research responsibilities will include histology implementation, optimization, and SOP development. The position will also be expected to design and execute independent research projects aimed at developing new histology applications and developing enhancements for current applications.

Daily operation of Precision BioSciences’ histology suite to ensure adherence to quality standards, deadlines and established procedures
Utilize project management skills in order to multi-task between multiple projects, ensuring the timely completion of objectives and deliverables
Independently design and execute experiments using wide field, confocal microscopy, ZEN, and additional imaging software
Responsible for all aspects of sample preparation, data acquisition, analysis, and interpretation for Histochemical, Immunohistochemical, and In-situ studies/experiments for a broad range of tissue types
Compile data, prepare reports, and/or presentations for assigned projects
Schedule and coordinate histology studies initiated by groups within Precision BioSciences
Responsible for the successful management of internal/external project progression
Provide professional opinion on suitability of proposed experiments to be included in study design and discuss the interpretation of results, at the discretion of manager
Assist, when needed, with PBS and formalin perfusion, fixation, tissue harvesting, and related tasks as deemed necessary
Review journals, abstracts and scientific literature to keep up with new developments, procedures and techniques
Maintain good working order of histology equipment and schedule maintenance when necessary
When applicable, maintain institutional knowledge and provide training for staff on histology equipment operations and methodologies
Maintain functional inventory of consumable materials and replenish supplies when needed
Train and instruct junior members of the team; may also manage team members in the future
Other duties related to team and job functions as requested by manager

This is an office-based position located at the main headquarters located in Durham, NC

Job Requirements


Successful candidate should have a Masters degree and 7+ years of relevant histology experience, or a PhD with 2-5+ years of experience, or equivalent combination of education and training
Demonstrated skill in performing a full range of histology applications and operating a variety of laboratory and automated histology instrumentation
Experience with RNAScope, Immuno-histochemistry, immunofluorescence, and multiplexing
Ability to work with hazardous chemicals and knowledge of safety requirements to provide instructions and recognize and correct hazardous conditions
Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with employees, vendors and external agencies
Ability to identify and resolve problems as well as communicate clearly and concisely

Board of Certification (BOC) by the American Society of Clinical Pathologist (ASCP)
Experience leading and/or mentoring teams
