The purpose of this position is to support the Laboratory and Materials Manager in day to day tasks and/or projects. A desire to make a difference will be critical to your success, as the 1st team member to join the Manager. In addition, your strong customer service and safety-oriented mindset, along with general lab acuity and self-motivation to help refine processes, will facilitate your success. Your interactions and support of the science teams will provide opportunity to seek out ways to influence new methods and procedures, while learning new skillsets. Estimated 90%+ time interacting within a stockroom and laboratory environment.
Receiving & distribution of materials: receives incoming supplies, completes quality inspection, ensures order accuracy, stages, and distributes accordingly across laboratory and offices.
Completes electronic and paper documentation of receipt to include scanning barcodes, reviewing packing slips, correlating vendor numbers to materials, such as catalog and purchase order numbers, and entering data into an Excel spreadsheet. Reports inaccuracies to Inventory Manager.
Ensures accurate records and timely communication of information to Manager and any internal and external stakeholders.
Stores incoming materials in designated bins and racks within the storeroom or laboratory areas.
Performs daily scan of storeroom and other storage areas to observe movement of inventory levels. Notifies Inventory Manager of rapid depletion of materials and the need to resupply.
Maintains a tidy storeroom area. Keeps materials on shelves organized, labeled and dusted, breaks down shipping boxes and keeps floor clear of obstructions.
Stocks the various labs as needed. Moves materials from storeroom to designated areas within labs.
Assists the Inventory Manager with removal of biological and chemical waste. Seals biohazard bins and relocates them to the waste room. Helps stage waste for biweekly pickup.
Assists in the development and implementation of new distribution and inventory practices, processes, and technologies to improve quality and efficiency.
Laboratory duties may include: Washing laboratory glassware utilizing an industrial dishwasher, sterilization of materials by autoclaving, buffer preparation, and other miscellaneous requests by the science teams.
60% - receiving and distribution of materials and inventory maintenance. Assist with transition to a new electronic inventory management system.
30% - Lab assistant: stock labs, wash dishes, sterilize materials, buffer preparation and waste removal.
10% - Light accounting work, processing paperwork associated with the ordering process.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
H.S. Degree required. Prefer Associates degree.
Excellent attention to detail to ensure accurate records, along with good written and verbal communications.
Good computer skills, specifically Excel spreadsheet required. Experience with a barcode and inventory management system and procurement software a plus.
Must be customer focused and have demonstrated customer service and interpersonal skills to manage/ support/work across various levels of staff.
Must have strong safety and housekeeping orientation to maintain professional, safe, and clean work environment.
Prior hazardous chemicals/hazard waste management experience is a plus.
Must have strong organizational and multi-tasking skills.
Willing to learn and apply new skillsets to help team and/or cover duties.
Must be a self-motivated and flexible professional who can effectively perform in a rapidly changing, small company environment.
Must be able to work independently but is also a team player with strong collaborative skills.
Must be able to work in controlled environments requiring special gowning, in addition to a facial mask. Must be able to wear appropriate PPE. Required to follow gowning requirements and wear protective clothing over the head, face, hands, feet, and body in certain laboratory areas.
Must be able to stand for long periods of time (several hours) in a day.
Must be able to lift, push, pull and carry up to 50 lbs.
