Job: Lab Associate, Locus Biosciences, Morrisville, NC
Locus Biosciences is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented applicant to join our research and development team as a full-time Laboratory Associate. This position is well suited for those that can accomplish a wide variety of tasks consistently and reliably. This individual will be responsible for inventory and budget management, ordering lab supplies, shipping and receiving of biological samples, equipment upkeep to support R&D activities, and for coordinating other staff in general lab upkeep tasks such as preparing media. This individual must also be able to implement effective organization and thrive in a team-first environment. They are expected to communicate effectively in formal and informal settings and be able to influence without authority. The ideal candidate will also have prior laboratory experience.
Responsibilities will include:
Maintaining lab inventory and procuring laboratory materials
Setting up, maintaining, calibrating, cleaning laboratory equipment and coordinating routine maintenance of equipment
Detailed documentation and reporting of material preparation, equipment upkeep, and research activities
Shipping and receiving of biological samples
Setup and coordination for external lab supply vendors and maintaining vendor relationships
Operation within and adherence to budget constraints
Preparation of technical reports and recommendations
Rapid acquisition of new skills and willingness to train other team members
Independent management of multiple projects as an individual contributor
Candidate must possess:
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and be adaptable to change
A notable interest in helping change the face of medicine and passion for science
Associate Degree education
Familiarity with general laboratory equipment such as autoclaves, centrifuges, pH meters, biological safety cabinets, balances, etc.
Attention to detail and excellent record-keeping using standard MS software
Motivation for measuring and improving processes and organizational layouts
Familiarity with chemical and biological risks of working in a laboratory environment
Familiarity with general laboratory techniques such as pipetting, aseptic technique and proper decontamination procedures
A BS in biology, microbiology, biochemistry or related field
At least two years’ experience in academic or industry laboratories
Technical proficiency in molecular or microbiology biology skills, such as DNA preparation, transformation, PCR, cloning, and plasmid construction is advantageous, but not required.
Familiarity with electronic lab notebook systems, automated liquid handlers, and/or anaerobic environments is desirable, but not required.
Experience and certification in hazardous and/or biohazardous shipping.
