Job Description


Position: Associate in Research

Bursac Lab: Cardiac Electrophysiology and Tissue Engineering

An Associate in Research position is immediately available in the Cardiac Electrophysiology and Tissue Engineering laboratory of the Biomedical Engineering Department at Duke University under Professor Nenad Bursac (http://bursaclab.pratt.duke.edu/).

Responsibilities:

Mouse husbandry inclusive of transgenic cross design/execution, breeding, tail/ear clipping, genotyping, i.p. injection and oral gavage. Secondary studies include primary tissue/cell isolation, fixing, embedding, sectioning and immunohistology; confocal imaging, image analysis and quantification; tissue homogenization, RNA/protein isolation, qRT-PCR and immunoblotting. The applicant should work well in both individual and team environments and be able to independently review relevant scientific literature for troubleshooting and methods improvement.

Job Requirements


Required Qualifications:

Primary - B.S. degree in biology or related field with significant mouse husbandry experience for the purpose of generating transgenic crosses.

Secondary - Experience with primary tissue/cell isolation and culture, immunohistology, confocal imaging and analysis, nucleic acid and protein handling/analysis, and basic data analysis/presentation skills are highly desired. Training is available in both the Bursac Lab and Duke Core Facilities.

The training environment of the Bursac Lab is highly interdisciplinary and provides ample opportunities for scientific growth and pursuit of both academic and industry careers. The selected applicant will be co-mentored by Dr. Bursac and a Fellow in the Division of Cardiology in the Duke Department of Medicine. Duke University is an equal opportunity employer.
