Research and Development
Responsible for leading new product and new application development projects and improving existing products for the Discovery Sub-Business Unit. Conceives and develops new products for assigned product group including developing experimental strategies, performing experiments, and organizing experimental results. Actively carries out specific project tasks, either independently or as part of a matrix team, tracks, and develops concise reports, conclusions, and recommendations.
Collaborates and coordinates work with other R&D team members across Lonza sites to ensures that team goals and agreed R&D project schedules are met;
Collaborates with other functions to ensure R&D activities are aligned with and supported by other departments and support business goals;
Follows the Bioscience’s Stage Gate and Design Control processes, and constantly improves R&D processes;
Leads projects and product development teams including hardware/software development if applicable
Constantly expands skill set and enhances knowledge related to leadership skills as well as cell biology and cell culture by keeping up with the literature, interacting with scientists, industry leaders, and attending scientific conferences.
Presents project and program progress and outcomes at group and department meetings. Prepares and delivers professional presentations at national and international scientific conferences.
Follows product development from scale-up through technology transfer to manufacturing and post-market introduction. Improves product performance as required by market needs.
Develops novel applications for Lonza’s products and technologies; optimizes existing Lonza offerings for certain customer applications;
Works in close cooperation with Marketing to generate data for use in promoting and marketing Lonza offerings
Supports transfer to manufacturing and production scale-up of new products in cooperation with Operations and Quality
Supports Manager Cell Biology R&D in budget planning and tracking
Maintenance of quality systems and cGMP compliance for the business by ensuring that all team members comply with processes, procedures and instructions for all activities in which the team participates.
Masters degree in Biology or Biotechnology required; PhD preferred
0-4 years Life Science R&D industry experience preferred
Innovative and solid “outside-the-box”-thinking capabilities. Willing to contribute to activities outside the group’s scope where expertise and support are required. Comfortable with working on weekends and holidays when necessary.
Demonstrated expertise in one or more fields including (but not limited to and where applicable): genetic engineering, stem cell biology, endothelial cell biology, assay development, neuroscience
Experience in working independently as well as strong desire to work as part of a matrix team.
Strong project management skills and demonstrated experience, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Knowledge/ training in GLP requirements. cGMP knowledge desirable
Experience with method development and validation.
Experience with product development from design through scale-up and post-market introduction.
