Job Description


Kepley BioSystems Inc. (KBI) is a NC-based life sciences start-up operating out of Gateway University Research Park in collaboration with the Joint School of Nanoscience and Nanoengineering, comprised of a partnership between the NC&T and the UNCG. KBI was founded in 2013 with a mission to emerge disruptive innovations to achieve global solutions, while addressing billion-dollar, global industries.

This project would support the development of sustainable horseshoe crab (HSC) aquaculture. The project aims to conserves wild HSCs and ecosystems to establish a cost-effective product (Limulus Amebocyte Lysate) essential for the global biomedical industry and human health. The research would determine sustainable HSC husbandry, assess growth and survival; whereby no parameters currently exist.

This internship requires a commitment of 10 hours per week over 12 weeks, and is available ASAP.

This internship is supported in part by a grant from the North Carolina Biotechnology Center through the Industrial Internship Program.

Job Requirements


  • 1-3 years of basic aquaculture experience
  • Aquatic animal handling experience
  • Water quality parameters and assessment experience
  • Aquatic animal feeding experience
  • Strong communication skills
  • Basic bench top laboratory techniques
  • Preferred candidates would have a bachelors in biology or animal sciences and experience working with recirculating aquaculture systems
