Job Description


Kepley BioSystems Inc. (KBI) is a NC-based life sciences start-up operating out of Gateway University Research Park in collaboration with the Joint School of Nanoscience and Nanoengineering, comprised of a partnership between the NC&T and the UNCG. KBI was founded in 2013 with a mission to emerge disruptive innovations to achieve global solutions, while addressing billion-dollar, global industries.

At present, we are looking for a qualified intern to join our marketing and product commercialization efforts for a new innovation in the companion animal market space (dogs). We are seeking an intern who can participate in various stages of our current go-to-market, organize field trials, develop relationships with regional dog owners, shelters and kennels, and participate in final product development, packaging and roll-out. The intern would work alongside scientists and professionals at Kepley BioSystems during this final and most important stage of product development and distribution. They would learn a diverse set of skills through working in a fast-paced team-oriented environment and would finish the internship having developed broad experience in various aspects of product research, development, launch, distribution, marketing and commercialization.

Some of the responsibilities include:
  • Developing relationships with regional and international accredited Veterinary Schools, Commercial Veterinarian Practices, Retail Chains, and Animal Shelters and Hospitals.
  • Assisting in the creation of email campaigns, online promotion, and field trial coordination.
  • Assist in the creation of marketing materials and promotional resources.
  • Perform analysis of marketing and sales data in companion animal market spaces
  • Seek and analyze competitor marketing and sales materials both on and offline
  • Organize, collect and compile collaborator and contact information into contact management systems.
  • Provide support to social media efforts.
  • Monitor social media for trending topics to utilize on social media channels.
  • Maintain tracking report of public relations activity.

    This internship requires a commitment of 10 hours per week over 12 weeks, and is available ASAP.

    This internship is supported in part by a grant from the North Carolina Biotechnology Center through the Industrial Internship Program.

Job Requirements


  • Interest in companion animal science and well-being
  • Practical experience with current marketing and advertising techniques
  • Basic understanding of sales, marketing, information systems, retail, advertising, promotion and/or entrepreneurship
  • Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Knowledgeable of social media
  • Motivated, independent, organized and task-oriented
  • Ability to take direction and multi-task
  • Experience with PowerPoint, Word, Excel and E-mail
  • Preferred candidates would possess an enthusiasm and curiosity for our canine companion animals, have an interest in improving canine health and well-being, and a express a willingness to participate in a product launch campaign and gain real world experience
  • Scheduling is flexible and many tasks can be accomplished remotely
