Arbiom is currently seeking a Microbial Physiologist to expand the Strain Development team and join a multi-disciplinary enterprise engaged in the development, demonstration, and scale up of Arbiom’s biorefinery technology, development of animal nutrition applications in close collaboration with our partners.
The Microbial Physiologist will contribute to Arbiom’s fermentation and strain development R&D bioprocess development efforts in support of technology transfer for the production of added-value sustainable animal feed ingredients based on fermentation of Arbiom’s biorefinery process streams. This position will be based in Durham, NC with a direct reporting line to the Chief Technology Officer.
Key Responsibilities May Include:
o Provide bioprocess development leads, including fermentation media recipes, for microbial fermentation bioprocess development, in particular, concerning cultivation of yeast-based products.
o Review state-of-the-art strain development, bioprocess development, including fermentation and downstream processing (DSP) literature, to identify and track trends in microbial bioprocess development technologies.
o Contribute to strain development, fermentation and DSP projects for the development of sustainable feed ingredients.
o Development & continuous improvement of Arbiom’s fermentation technology portfolio, manufacturing technology and formulation processes.
o Facilitation and coordination of collaboration throughout the R&D organization.
o Assistance in preparation of documents for patent filings, technology transfer, and regulatory approvals.

o M.Sc., Ph.D. in Microbiology, Microbial Physiology, or related field or equivalent experience.
o 3-5 years of R&D experience.
o 3-5 years of experience in microbial physiology for fermentation applications, in particular, for yeast-based products development.
o Must possess excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills.
o Must be able to lead and direct others.
o Must be a self-starter, highly organized multitasker, and a hard worker.

o Knowledge of standard business software.
