Conduct a variety of investigations with a focus on immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, flow cytometry, mouse models, and basic molecular biology, within the overall scope of a research project at Duke University.
Prepare mouse tissue and specimens for immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence procedures; perform tissue digestion and cell isolation, provide support for flow cytometry assays; and support cell culture workflows. Perform a variety of technical duties involved in conducting experiments to obtain data for research purposes; compile and document experimental results. Confer with the principal investigator to review work assignments and develop plans to meet the needs of the particular experiment as required.
Duties and procedures may include, but are not limited to: monitoring study mice, preparing mouse tissue specimens for immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, flow cytometry, performing molecular biology, and some routine cell culture work under the guidance of principal investigator and other lab members in support of research-oriented activities at Duke University.
Maintain records and documentation of sample acquisitions and all work performed in an organized lab notebook and an institutional database. Be able to communicate and present results to the principal investigator and other lab members.
Review journals, abstracts, and scientific literature to obtain information to aid in the design and development of procedures and techniques.
Prepare and maintain reagents, buffers, and media for procedures described above.
Clean and sterilize glassware. Discard autoclaved materials.
Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein. Education/Training: Work requires a bachelor's degree in biochemistry, molecular biology, immunology, or another directly related scientific field.
Experience: Work requires a minimum of one-two year of laboratory experience and ability to work productively in an environment that requires a good level of communication and collaboration.
