Job Description

Job Summary: The Specialist I/II (level dependent on education/experience) will provide maintenance and operational support for facilities, manufacturing, and laboratory areas while ensuring compliance with FDA, GMP, GLP, and OSHA regulations and guidelines.

The primary responsibilities of the Specialist I/II will include:
• Support the maintenance and repair of all building systems, including electrical, HVAC, plumbing, automation, and interior surfaces (floors. walls, doors)
• Follow SOPs and cGMP/GLP/OSHA guidelines while performing preventive maintenance and non-scheduled maintenance
• Document work performed in a compliant manner using log books and electronic work order systems
• Support the Facilities, Engineering, and Industrial Process departments with operating, testing and troubleshooting of equipment and systems, including centrifuges, filters, autoclaves, and flow hoods
• Work with Quality, Validation, Greenhouse, and other groups to ensure timely and professional communication between departments before, during, and after task completion
• Coordinate with outside contractual support needed to complete specialized electrical, electronics, HVAC, plumbing, automation, and other repair services

Specific Systems support will include:
• Help develop and maintain equipment and material specifications and spare parts for facilities, manufacturing and laboratory equipment and systems
• Provide guidance for specifying equipment and systems according to previous experience
• Identify, procure, and maintain necessary testing and safety equipment required to safely work on equipment within the Medicago facility
• Provide support for Facilities equipment including boilers, chillers, air handling units, pumps and refrigeration
• Provide BMS/BAS controls support
• Ability to provide occasional evening and/or weekend service, and be on a rotating on-call schedule

Job Requirements

Education and Experience Required:
• Two year technical degree in construction, automation, maintenance or similar field and/or 5 years’ experience in a manufacturing, industrial, or military environment
• Preference for strong electrical, automation, or specialty equipment technical and trouble shooting skills
• Experience with Arc Flash regulations a strong plus
• Strong ability to review and interpret engineering documents, drawings and schematics
• Good working knowledge of and attention to industry-standard safety practices, including OSHA
• Experience in a FDA regulated manufacturing environment with cGMP/GLP knowledge a strong plus
• Excellent communication and writing skills with a team player mentality
• Strong knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
• The employee is occasionally required to stand, up to 6 hours a day; walk; reach with hands and arm and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
• The employee must occasionally lift up to 30 pounds
