Job: Research Scientist - Synthetic Biology, bioMASON Inc, Durham, NC
The Research Scientist, Synthetic Biology is accountable for driving results in a fast-paced environment by setting up and carrying through experiments for the optimization of biochemical processes within bioMASON and leveraging strain engineering strategies with non-model organisms. This role will generate new hypotheses and technology initiatives and develop these into research programs to develop new and improved products. As a Research Scientist you will assist in the transition of a development technology to commercial viability and optimization of R&D processes.
This role will be based in Research Triangle Park, NC. This position is eligible for relocation.

Conduct research in the areas of synthetic biology, genetic modification, strain engineering, and mutagenesis on non-model bacteria strains
Execute metabolic engineering with stable integration in specific strains to produce desirable phenotypes
Determine research directions, create novel technical solutions and overall drive innovation
Lead technician(s) in developing research strategy, helping them design and execute experiments, analyze data and present conclusions to the broader group
Attracts, develops, and retains a high performing team to meet the current and evolving needs of the business through effective selection, training and development, coaching and mentoring and performance management
Qualifications and Requirements
Master’s degree in a science related field such as biology, microbiology, materials science, synthetic biology, etc.
2 years of experience in biology or microbiology within industry including 2 years of experience working with fermentation
Strong background in the science, technology, applications, and related investments in the field of synthetic biology
Experience with genetic modification of bacteria, modification of non-model organisms and microbial fermentation
Knowledge and proven experience with scientific writing and documentation
Proven ability to be objective, innovative, decisive and excited by new challenges in an expanding organization
Additional Preferred Attributes
PhD in a science related field such as biology, microbiology, materials science, synthetic biology, genomics, metabolomics, etc.
