The Head of Virology and Molecular Biology is responsible for the development of viral vector technologies for use in gene therapy indications and for the development of molecular biology techniques for the Research and Development Team. This individual will also work closely with the R&D team in the planning, organizing and overseeing the day to day activities relating to the advancement of current and new gene therapy candidates. The incumbent will work in collaboration with the BridgeBio CMC team to develop and support improved viral vector production technologies and analytics. The Head will lead several Research Associates while dedicating at least 75% hands on time at the bench. This is an R&D laboratory focused role in our Raleigh, NC gene therapy laboratory.


• Provide scientific leadership to the Research and Development Team across multiple projects
• Develop current AAV vector technologies through optimization of vector designs and viral vector production processes
• Contribute to the organization, management, and direction of the Research and Development Team
• Provide subject matter expertise to the team for molecular biology, cell culture/cell biology, and molecular analytics
• Develop in house expertise for the production of research grade AAV to support ongoing research projects
• Collaborate with CMC team to develop and transfer improved viral vector production methods and molecular analytics
• Participate in the assessment of potential new gene therapy projects from academic and other outside sources
• Direct and develop R&D associates
• Work with Executive management to develop strategic direction and focus of the Research and Development Team
• Serve as scientific point of contact for collaborative research projects

Job Requirements

• PhD degree in virology, molecular biology, or related field


• 10+ years of years of experience in the biopharmaceutical or bioprocess industry or equivalent is required with direct experience in molecular virology and process development. Previous supervisory experience is required
• The ideal candidate will have relevant knowledge and industrial experience in the field of viral vector development and gene therapy development. The candidate is expected to possess a high degree of skill and experience in development of molecular and biological assay techniques, especially digital PCR and plasmid design/construction
