We are seeking a highly motivated individual for the role of Research Associate I. The position will be based in Durham, North Carolina and will directly report to the Director of Research in the R&D Lab. The Research Associate works with the laboratory team to implement the research programs being carried out at Heat Biologics.
The Research Associate will primarily be involved in the execution of in vivo/in vitro experimental protocols and performing elementary data analysis in biopharmaceutical development laboratories. In addition, the Research Associate shall maintain familiarity with current scientific literature and hone professional expertise through familiarity with the scientific literature. It is expected that up to 75% of the Research Associate’s time will be spent at the bench. The Research Associate may also be involved supporting analytical activities for the CMC team as needs arise.
Responsible for executing in vivo/in vitro experimental protocols and performing elementary data analysis in biopharmaceutical development laboratories. This includes, but is not limited to, experiments in murine models of cancer as well as mammalian tissue culture.
Regularly exercises technical discretion in the execution and interpretation of experiments that contribute to project goals.
Makes detailed observations and carries out elementary data analysis; translating these observations into cohesive notebook entries and technical reports.
Understands experiments and conducts troubleshooting analysis.
Maintains familiarity with current scientific literature; maintains professional expertise through familiarity with scientific literature.
Assures proper labeling, handling, and storage of all chemicals used in the area; assures proper labeling and disposition of hazardous waste in satellite areas; adheres to all safety requirements and follows safe procedures, and attends all required safety and health training, including handling hazardous waste.
Performs other work-related duties as assigned.
A successful candidate must be organized, self-motivated, and able to thrive in a fast-paced dynamic biotech environment where flexibility, tolerability to rapid change, and drive to make a significant impact is essential.
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree required in a related scientific field (biology, immunology, or biochemistry preferred).
4+ year’s laboratory experience (academic or Biotech/Biopharmaceutical industry).
2+ year’s experience with in-vivo rodent models of cancer; techniques include intravenous delivery of agents via the tail vein, subcutaneous inoculation of cells, intraperitoneal injection, cardiac puncture, tail bleeds, and organ harvest.
Experience with the all the following laboratory methods highly desirable: ELISA, cell counting, flow cytometry, probe and SYBR based qPCR, and Western blotting.
Experience with mammalian cell culture and good aseptic technique preferred.
Good written and verbal communication and interpersonal communication skills to effectively interact with all levels both within and outside the company.
