Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer & US Site Manager, the primary responsibilities of the IT Director are:

Information Technology Management:

- Develop and oversee implementation of a strategic IT capacity plan using reliable metrics for hardware, software and storage requirements;
- Oversee programs for IT hardware and software maintenance, training and consultation, and recommendations about future planning and development of IT resources; providing such services in an effective and efficient manner to ensure maximum access to and implementation of technology services and resources;
- Oversee ongoing IT security system programs to protect the company’s assets. Constantly identify evolving security vulnerabilities and implement countermeasures to eliminate the risks;
- Oversee long term development of the help desk system to manage user requests and provide timely service and support;
- Assess software and implementation costs to support the needs of the company, and present clear business options and costs with recommendations; assuring efficiency, compatibility, and consistency of software resources across the company;
- Oversee the telecommunication systems throughout the company’s facilities through system monitoring, response to requests for service, or troubleshooting problems with the system or service interface. This includes all telecommunication and video conferencing technologies;
- Develop, implement and monitor policies and standard operating procedures for electronic data processing and storage, and computer operations consistent with quality and regulatory requirements;
- Provide leadership for all IT infrastructure projects to assure quality, schedule, and cost targets are met; coordinating execution of projects to minimize service interruption, while communicating with end users and facility personnel regarding the same;
- Provide IT technical leadership in ERP and LIMS implementation projects
- Provide management of all IT service contractors;
- Develop and implement programs for the proper and adequate training of end users of technology systems;
- Communicate long term strategies and ongoing program developments with Medicago’s executive management team;
- Oversee and coordinate all process and facility automation systems from system design, commissioning and start-up through each system’s operating life; this includes, but is not limited to, the building automation system, process, greenhouse and facility stand-alone control systems (PLC-based or proprietary DDC systems).

Other Requirements:

- Coordinating with operations and facility engineering to assure that systems operate optimally;
- Oversee programs for IT asset acquisitions and modifications to IT and automation systems including adherence to change control requirements;
- Coordinate file transfer/sharing activities with other Medicago sites and departments;
- Assist the Sr. Director of Facilities and Engineering in the planning for future use and development of facility automation and IT infrastructure in line with strategic business objectives of Medicago;
- Utilizing performance management techniques to monitor and demonstrate achievement of agreed service levels and to lead on improvement;
- Responding timely and appropriately to emergencies or urgent issues as they arise; other responsibilities as assigned;
- Some international travel is required;
- The employee may be required to stand, up to 6 hours a day; walk; reach with hands and arm and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl;
- The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.

Job Requirements

• Bachelor of science degree in IT, or computer engineering with at least ten years’ experience in a similar position;
• Experience with the requirements of FDA-regulated facility, including 21CFR Part 11;
• Experience with new plant start-up and commissioning is highly desirable;
• Excellent communication skills and strong leadership qualities are required;
• Ability to read and understand engineering drawings is required;
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office® and project scheduling software (e.g. Microsoft Project®).
