Arbiom is pioneering the development and commercialization of new technologies for the transformation of renewable non-food plant biomass feedstock to biocompatible sugars and lignin needed for the renewable chemicals/biochemical, feed and advanced biomaterials industries. By unlocking new, high-value opportunities for abundant, renewable plant biomass to provide bio-based chemicals, feed and materials industries with more environmentally friendly choices, Arbiom is becoming the enabler of the sustainable bio-economy.
We are currently seeking a Bioprocess Development Engineer/Scientist to expand our fermentation team and join a multi-disciplinary enterprise engaged in the development, demonstration, and up-scaling of Arbiom’s biorefinery technology, development of animal nutrition applications in close collaboration with our partners.
The Bioprocess Development Engineer/Scientist will contribute to Arbiom’s fermentation R&D bioprocess development efforts in support of technology transfer for the production of added-value sustainable feed ingredients based on fermentation of Arbiom’s biorefinery process streams. This position will be based in Durham, NC with a direct reporting line to the Chief Technology Officer.
Key Responsibilities May Include:
o Review state-of-the-art bioprocess development, including fermentation and downstream processing (DSP) literature, to identify and track trends in bioprocess development technologies.
o Lead fermentation and DSP projects for the development of sustainable feed ingredients in collaboration with partners and a strong focus on aquaculture, companion animals, and overall youngster animal feed industries.
o Development & continuous improvement of Arbiom’s fermentation technology portfolio, manufacturing technology and formulation processes.
o Facilitation and coordination of collaboration throughout the R&D organization.
o Assistance in preparation of documents for patent filings, technology transfer, and regulatory approvals.
o Direction and supervision of fermentation junior staff.

o Ph.D. or M.Sc. in Bioprocess Engineering, Biotechnology or related field.
o 3-5+ years of supervisory R&D experience.
o 3-5+ years of experience in fermentation bioprocess development.
o Must possess excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills.
o Must be able to lead and direct others.
o Knowledge of toll manufacturing practices is a plus.
o Must be a self-starter, highly organized multitasker, and a hard worker.
o Team player that thrives in a cutting edge, fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.
o Knowledge of standard business software.
