Job: Assay technician, Redbud Labs, Chapel Hill, NC
Chapel Hill, NC 27599 United States
Research and Development
Redbud Labs is a start-up company that is inventing new diagnostic assays. We are expanding our small team. This is an exciting opportunity for an individual who thrives in a multidisciplinary environment and hopes to work for a young company developing cutting edge technology.
Redbud Labs develops and manufactures high-impact life science solutions based on our patented Redbud Post platform. Redbud Posts enable new products for molecular diagnostics, drug manufacturing, and sample prep. Our team combines multidisciplinary engineering design and a deep culture of scientific thinking. Our mission is to build groundbreaking life science products.
We are seeking an energetic individual to execute the development and testing of microfluidic and biochemical assays. The selected candidate will perform experiments, analyze resultant data, write reports and present results. Organizational skills and excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential. This is a high-visibility role that presents unusual opportunity to gain diverse experience and to grow with the company. A successful candidate will have the opportunity to participate in the conception of new products and to be an inventor on patents.
The chosen candidate will help develop assays using our proprietary technology. This includes evaluating multiple variables to assess assay reliability and performance. Analysis of biological specimens such as whole blood will be required. The candidate will assist senior management at all phases of assay development, including experimental design, creating SOPs, performing the experiments, analyzing resultant data, writing reports and presenting results. Additionally, the candidate will:
• Record data in an accurate and timely manner with appropriate purpose, protocols and conclusions.
• Communicate the purpose, status, and results of your work at all levels within the company, up to and including the CEO.
• Execute work to meet program deadlines, including planning assay optimization and documentation.
• Closely adhere to appropriate safety and environmental regulations. Safely handle human specimens.
• Keep the lab running smoothly: manage lab supplies, reagents, and instruments.
We invent new technology, on a deadline. Invention doesn’t happen by accident. It is the product of countless failures and a lot of hard work. We look for creative, skilled people with a passion for problem solving and a determination to get the job done.
Expertise matters. Demonstrated success at a lab bench is a prerequisite. This position requires the ability to use and understand the workings of sophisticated equipment. A molecular biology or biochemistry background will be useful. Experience with a range of analytic and experimental techniques is ideal.
Independence is encouraged, teamwork is essential. The candidate must be motivated and self directed, yet able to follow the detailed procedures in existing protocols. The position is part of a small, interdisciplinary team, and regular interactions will require clear communication of findings and ideas, an ability to focus on precise execution of detailed protocols, and a desire to work along side group members to achieve our common goals.
Typical training for this position will be in Biological Sciences, Biomedical Engineering, Analytical Chemistry, or a related field. Expected experience for this position is a relevant bachelors degree (BS) and success in a prior role in a relevant lab at a university or a pharmaceutical or biotech firm.
